
NSS Unit-VI, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu celebrated NSS Day with an Awareness Programme and the launch of a Stationery Donation Drive for the underprivileged children of flood-affected areas. The donation drive, which will continue from September 24 to October 02, 2025, was formally inaugurated at Kathua Campus as part of the NSS Day celebrations.
The Awareness Programme aimed to inspire newly admitted students to join NSS and embrace the spirit of voluntary service. The session introduced students to the vision and mission of NSS, the values it upholds, and the opportunities it offers for holistic growth while serving society. It also highlighted Seva Parv, a national initiative to promote the spirit of selfless service as a form of patriotism and community contribution.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jammu, while inaugurating the Stationery Donation Drive, appreciated the efforts of NSS volunteers and said that such initiatives not only extend support to those in need but also inculcate in students the values of empathy, responsibility, and collective service. She encouraged the volunteers to continue working with the same zeal in all future endeavours.
In her message, Prof. Vishav Raksha, Convener, NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu emphasized that NSS plays a vital role in shaping socially responsible citizens and strengthening the bond between students and society.
Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in his message highlighted that through initiatives like the donation drive, students learn compassion, empathy, and the true meaning of service.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator, NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu in her message appreciated the enthusiasm of the volunteers and urged students to uphold the ethos of Seva Parv by contributing meaningfully to community service.
Dr. Rockey Gupta, Principal, UIET congratulated the NSS Unit-VI for their efforts and encouraged students to actively participate in such programmes that connect classroom learning with social responsibility.

Adding to this, Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Programme Officer, NSS Unit-VI explained the significance of NSS in developing leadership, teamwork, and empathy among students. He also underlined that the Stationery Donation Drive is not merely a collection initiative, but a symbol of solidarity with children whose education has been disrupted by natural calamities.
On the occasion, Akhilesh Singh and Riya Verma, NSS volunteers and MBA 1st Semester students also shared her perspective on NSS, expressing how joining the unit provides students with a platform to serve, grow, and make a lasting impact on society.
The programme concluded with the formal launch of the Stationery Donation Drive, a collective effort of NSS volunteers and faculty members to bring hope and support to the children of flood-affected areas.
