This is Ursula von der Leyen’s third visit to\u00a0India, having earlier visited the country\u00a0for\u00a0a\u00a0bilateral official visit\u00a0in\u00a0April 2022,\u00a0and\u00a0later to\u00a0attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit\u00a0in\u00a0September 2023. Prime Minister Modi\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0EU\u00a0President have\u00a0also met regularly on the sidelines of multilateral meetings.<\/p>\n
Elevating the\u00a0India-European Union multifaceted partnership to\u00a0new\u00a0heights, this is the first ever visit of the\u00a0EU\u00a0College of Commissioners together to\u00a0India\u00a0and\u00a0among the first such visits since the start of the mandate of the current\u00a0European Commission\u00a0in\u00a0December 2024\u00a0after\u00a0the\u00a0European parliamentary elections held\u00a0in\u00a0June 2024.<\/p>\n
The President of the\u00a0European Commission was received with\u00a0a\u00a0special welcome by Minister of State\u00a0for\u00a0Health\u00a0and\u00a0Family Welfare\u00a0Anupriya Patel\u00a0at the\u00a0airport.<\/p>\n
PM Modi is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday. The second ministerial meeting of the\u00a0India\u2013EU\u00a0Trade\u00a0and\u00a0Technology Council\u00a0and\u00a0bilateral ministerial meetings between the\u00a0European Commissioners\u00a0and\u00a0their\u00a0Indian counterparts will\u00a0also be held during the visit.<\/p>\n
“India\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0European Union have been\u00a0strategic\u00a0partners since 2004\u00a0and\u00a0their bilateral ties have expanded\u00a0and\u00a0deepened\u00a0across\u00a0a\u00a0wide range of\u00a0areas.\u00a0As the two sides enter the third decade of the\u00a0strategic\u00a0partnership, the visit of President von der Leyen\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0EU\u00a0College of Commissioners will pave the way\u00a0for\u00a0further strengthening of bilateral relations based on growing convergences,” read\u00a0a\u00a0statement issued by the Ministry of External\u00a0Affairs (MEA)\u00a0ahead of the\u00a0EU\u00a0President’s\u00a0arrival.<\/p>\n
