The post reads:\u00a0<em>\u201cAccording to the new guidelines, cheques written in black ink will no longer be accepted from 01 January 2025, and cheques must be written in blue or green ink to be considered valid. The RBI has taken this step to prevent tampering and alteration of cheques.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0The post further alleges that this information was sourced from a report published in\u00a0<em>The Times of India<\/em>\u00a0on 14 January 2025.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv\">\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Latest and Breaking News on NDTV\" src=\"https:\/\/c.ndtvimg.com\/2025-01\/1s4dhvko_fact-check-rbi-ink-colour-for-cheques_625x300_19_January_25.jpg\" title=\"Latest and Breaking News on NDTV\" \/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The archived version of this post can be found <a class=\"sp_lnk2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.awesomescreenshot.com\/image\/52502160?key=332578c234fe3755b99983a1b9b67bbe\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Claim:\u00a0<\/strong>The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revised the guidelines for filling out cheques, prohibiting the use of black ink. Cheques must now be written exclusively in blue or green ink.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fact:<\/strong>\u00a0No, the RBI has not issued any such guidelines prohibiting the use of black ink for writing cheques. According to information available on the RBI website, the RBI has not prescribed any specific ink colours for writing cheques. The Government of India&#8217;s official fact-checking unit, PIB Fact Check, also clarified that viral post if fake and that the RBI has not issued any such guidelines. Hence the claim made in the post is\u00a0<strong>FALSE.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We conducted a relevant keyword search to verify the viral claim&#8217;s veracity. However, we did not find any credible reports indicating that the RBI has prohibited the use of black ink for filling out cheques. If the RBI had indeed issued such guidelines, it would have garnered significant media attention and been widely reported by numerous media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>During our search, we also found no report from\u00a0<em>The Times of India<\/em>\u00a0supporting the viral claim. We then visited\u00a0<em>The Times of India<\/em>\u00a0website and reviewed its 14 January 2025 news edition, as mentioned in the claim. However, no such report was found there either (<a href=\"https:\/\/epaper.indiatimes.com\/english-news-paper-today-toi-print-edition\/14th-january-2025?tophead=epaper\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We then visited the RBI website and reviewed its press releases, circulars, and publications. However, we did not find any information about any such guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we conducted a keyword search on the RBI website, which led us to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rbi.org.in\/scripts\/FAQView.aspx?Id=63\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>\u00a0(archived\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110527063013\/https:\/www.rbi.org.in\/commonman\/english\/scripts\/FAQs.aspx?Id=273\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a>) published on 31 October 2022 titled\u00a0<em>\u2018Frequently Asked Questions&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0on the Cheque Truncation System. In this report, it is mentioned that:\u00a0<em>\u201cThe RBI has not prescribed specific ink colours to be used for writing cheques.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0However, one should not use different coloured inks to fill out a cheque, as this may render the cheque\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/chennai\/beware-different-inks-could-render-a-cheque-invalid\/articleshow\/70222112.cms\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">invalid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv\">\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Latest and Breaking News on NDTV\" src=\"https:\/\/c.ndtvimg.com\/2025-01\/srfup5oo_fact-check-rbi-ink-colour-for-cheques_625x300_19_January_25.jpg\" title=\"Latest and Breaking News on NDTV\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Responding to viral posts, on 17 January 2025, the Government of India&#8217;s official fact-checking unit, PIB Fact Check,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PIBFactCheck\/status\/1880162935278039453\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">clarified<\/a>\u00a0(archived\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mvau.lt\/media\/4d585873-37da-42f9-a166-a42a816870b8\" rel=\"nofollow,noindex\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a>) on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has not issued any new rules prohibiting the use of black ink on cheques. It also stated that the RBI has not prescribed specific ink colours for writing cheques.<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It is being claimed in social media
